  7. Contained in this archive is version 1.11 of AEMail, an Internet Mail User
  8. Agent (Client), which can be used to retrieve mail fron a POP Server and
  9. send mail to a SMTP server.  It requires AmiTCP, or a TCP/IP stack that
  10. is compatable with AmiTCP, and AmigaDOS 2.1 or later.  AEMail has been
  11. successfully tested with TCP/IP stacks used by AmiTCP, TermiteTCP, and
  12. Miami.

  14. AEMail can also be used as a "MailTo" agent in WWW browsers, such as
  15. Voyager and AWeb, which allow the user to specify such an agent for
  16. composing and sending email.
  17.  
  18. This version corrects a number of bugs that were discovered in the
  19. 1.10 version released to AmiNet.  A list of the bugs corrected is given 
  20. in the version history below.

  22. Later versions of AEMail are planned which will provide:

  24.         AREXX Support
  25.         Filtering incoming messages to specified folders
  26.         Asynchronous retrieval of messages from a POP server
  27.         Asynchronous sending of messages to the SMTP server
  28.         faster message display routines
  29.         Built in message editor
  30.         Other features suggested by users

  33. This version is "Freeware".  Permission is given to to test and evaluate
  34. the program in return for feedback on the use of the program and reporting
  35. of any bugs encountered.  Later versions will become "shareware".

  46. Before attempting to use AEMail you should read the documentation in
  47. AEMail.guide.  After the install process the default tool for the AEMail.guide
  48. file will be MultiView if you are running under 3.0 or later, or AmigaGuide
  49. if you are ruinning under 2.1.

  63. I would appreciate any suggestions that you have for improving AEMAIL.
  64. I will not guarantee that I will accept all suggestions or that I will
  65. necessarily implement them in the next release; however, I do take each
  66. suggestion seriously.  In the past I have implemented a number of suggestions
  67. made by my testers.  I will attempt to respond to each suggestion that is
  68. made.

  70. In making suggestions keep in mind some of the restraints that I have placed
  71. on AEMAIL:  (1) The program should be able to be run on any version of
  72. AmigaDos 2.1 or greater, and (2) with the exception of AmiTCP or a TCP/IP
  73. compatible with AmiTCP, AEMAIL should not require any extension to your system
  74. that does not come with a standard AmigaDOS release.  This effectively rules
  75. out MUI.  Using an editor of your choice meets this criteria since you can use
  76. the standard AmigaDOS editors, ED or MEMACS, which come with the standard
  77. Amiga systems.

  79. When reporting bugs or making suggestions, please be as complete as possible
  80. in describing the circumstances that brought about the problem or how the
  81. suggestion could be implemented.

  83. If you give this program to anyone else to use and evaluate, please include
  84. the complete archive including the readme and documentation files and make
  85. clear to them that this is a prelimary version of the program.

  87. An automatic registration procedure has been provided which will automatically
  88. send me an email message the first time any mail is sent from AEMAIL.  This
  89. message will also be sent any time the user upgrades to a new version.

  92. THE FUTURE
  93.  
  94. This version of AEMail is version 1.11, and is the eighth BETA release.  At
  95. this point it is still under evaluation and is "Freeware" to encourage as
  96. much wide spread use of the program as possible.  This "Freeware" version
  97. can be distributed to any and all BBS's provided the entire archive is kept
  98. intact.

  100. I also hope to shortly develop my own "home page" where the latest version
  101. can be obtained.  However, as a user of the program you will receive updates
  102. via email or a notice when a new version is posted to AmiNet.

  104. When certain features such as:
  105.  
  106.         AREXX
  107.         Background retrieval and sending of mail.
  108.         Directing retrieval of mail to selected folders.
  109.         Built in editor.
  110.  
  111. are implemented, AEMAIL will be released as shareware.  When this occurs, a
  112. number of these features will be disabled until the shareware fee is paid.
  113.  
  114. Since the doc file is quite large, I am also considering a printed manual
  115. that will be sent to registered users that pay the shareware fee.  The
  116. availability of this manual may be before the features listed above are
  117. implemented.

  125. Version 1.11    Released October 14, 1996.  This version corrects some minor
  126.                 bugs as follows:

  128.                 Corrected the installation script which incorrectly identified
  129.                 the "Amitcp:bin" directory.
  130.  
  131.                 Corrected bug that did not allow files in the file requester
  132.                 for the "stopnet" script in the Configuration screen.

  134.                 Implemented the 9 character NickName for the address book that
  135.                 was suppose to be implemented in Version 1.10.

  147.                 Corrected bug caused by multiple line SMTP responses.  This
  148.                 would result in a "hang" when trying to send messages.
  149.  
  150.                 Prevents a GURU (8000005 - Divide-By-Zero error) from
  151.                 occuring when AEMail was unable to determine the size of
  152.                 a message that was being retrieved from the POP Server.
  153.  
  154.                 Corrected a bug in which not enough memory was being
  155.                 allocated for error message requester displays.  This
  156.                 caused a GURU after the error message was displayed.

  158.                 When a group address book entry had an actual UserID
  159.                 rather than a Nickname for one of it's addresses, the
  160.                 entire group was not sent.

  162.                 A guru or freeze occurred when reading certain messages.
  163.                 These messages had an incomplete Content-Type: header.

  165.                 Some requester windows had overlapping fields when a

  218.                 Corrected a bug when messages that were not read were
  219.                 transferred to another folder.  The number of unread
  220.                 messages on the folder strip was incorrect.  Also, if you
  221.                 delete a message that was unread, it will reduce the
  222.                 unread count for that folder (the total message count
  223.                 still includes messages marked for deletion).  If you
  224.                 undelete a message that was never read, the unread count
  225.                 will increase.
